CTC actor Dean Holt is a cat…
Children's Theatre Company actor Dean Holt had an assignment from his boss. "There was a chase in 'Pippi Longstocking' the last time we did it. I built this whole thing where people are grabbing the set and rolling around, a Keystone Kops kind of chase. We were dying laughing in the rehearsal room,"recalls Peter Brosius, CTC artistic director and the director of that 2012 production. One problem: During preview performances, audiences did not die laughing. They didn't laugh at all. Solution: Have Holt fix it.
"He's such a great thinker," says Brosius. "So I said to him, 'Can you come in tomorrow with a new chase?' I saw him writing down all these notes -- he had a little piece of paper with the beats of the chase on it -- and he showed it to me the next day. It was way better than what I had come up with. So I made a few adjustments and said, 'That's what we're going to do.' "
